Five Guys Burgers & Fries

Today, I was craving a Starbucks Caramel Brulee Latte. Unfortunately, it was only available during the Christmas season. Oh well, I still needed a Latte. Since the closest Starbucks is across the parking lot from Five Guys, and I have never been. I had to try it.

When I first saw the signs for a Five Guys "Coming Soon" to Bramalea City Centre back in October or so, I was pretty excited. From what I saw, it looked like a diner type restaurant, perfect for my family. With the new renovations in and around Bramalea City Centre, they have added some new restaurants too, but none of which I have felt very comfortable taking my 3 and 4 year old. :(

For the longest time, Sonny's has been THE place to get a yummy burger in Brampton. It's like an institution in Brampton. It also helps that  Sonny's is walking distance from my house. In the summer, Sonny's is usually where my family and I go during our after dinner walks.

Ok, enough about Sonny's, there's a new burger kid in town. Five Guys has 10 locations in Ontario, 2 more opening soon. (At least, that what their website says.) The Brampton location opened their doors in November, but this was my first visit, and it definitely won't be my last. The main thing Five Guys has over Sonny's is an indoor dining area. However, Five Guys only has burgers, hot dogs and fries. Yup, that's it. Honestly, it works. If that's what you're good at, then why mess with a good thing, right?

Five Guys in a well known American burger chain.
Very well known for their burger and fries. All over the shop
there are reviews of how awesome they are.

I do have to admit, their burgers and fries were pretty good. I wouldn't say they're the "best". I prefer the char-grilled flavour of Sonny's burgers and the option to have fries/onion ring combos or poutine, but Five Guys use fresh burgers not frozen ones and they have hand cut fries. Next time, I will ask for my bun to be toasted, if possible, and order the Cajun Style fries. They sound yummy! :)

I ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger, Hot Dog, Five Guys fries and a drink. There was so much food. The burger was huge and Logan's Hot Dog was a good size too. There were lots and lots of fries. I'm glad I only ordered a regular, rather then the large.

Oh, Five Guys also has a box of peanuts, all you can eat. I'm not sure what that is all about, but Logan couldn't stop eating them. :)

If you are in around the Bramalea City Centre area, take quick trip to Five Guys. You won't be sorry or leave hungry.

Have you been to a Five Guys location? What did you think?

Happy Eating!!  :)

P.S. I did get my latte after. :)

Breakfast Time!

I was recently asked what is my favourite easy breakfast. I would have to say my Breakfast Cups. Simple and delicious..

I usually make these for brunch on Sunday, but make a ton of them. Whatever is left over, I throw them in the fridge for a quick breakfast on the go. Just pop them in the microwave for a minute or two and you have yourself a yummy and satisfying breakfast or snack. My kids love them too.

Breakfast Cups

Ingredients:
6 slices of stale bread
6 eggs
1 cup milk
1 tbsp chives, chopped
Salt and pepper
1 cup cooked bacon or cooked ham
1 cup cheese

Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease a 12-muffin pan, set aside.
  2. Cut 12 circles from the bread slices. I used a biscuit cutter.
  3. In a bowl, beat 6 eggs, milk, chives, salt and pepper. Dip each bread circle in egg mixture and place in the bottom of each muffin hole, and top with some bacon. Pour remaining egg mixture into each muffin hole, then top with cheese.
  4. Bake in preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until breakfast cups are cooked and tops are lightly brown. Serve hot or room temperature.

What's your favourite breakfast?

Happy Cooking!! :)

Help I need better lighting!!

I haven't really been taking pictures of my yummy food or posting any recipe lately. I know it's really sad for me too. I bought a new fancy camera just be for Christmas and it takes some awesome pictures, but since it gets dark around 4:30 pm right now. My pictures still look like crap, due to my kitchen's horrible lighting. *sigh*

I think I may have to actually invest in a light box. Oh, and maybe some photography lessons for my bad composition. I guess I can't blame that one lighting.  LOL!!

Here's a Light Box kit from Henrys.com for $179.99
A little to steep for a simple hobby.
Although, I did find an awesome link, which shows how to make a light box for under $50 bucks. Awesome right!!

I hope to make one soon, then maybe I'll get out of this photography funk. :(

At least, I have my crocheting!! :)

What do you do in your spare moment?

Happy Hobbying! :)

New Hobby :)

Over the past few months have picked up a new obsession hobby. I have been looking for one for a little while now, but I think this is it. I have been making slippers galore.

I have moved on to adult and baby hats, oh and baby mittens. Although, I don't have any babies in my household, I have decided to make as many baby hats and mittens to donate to my local hospital. I am actually really excited for this new venture. I have always told my husband I wanted to change the world, but never really knew how. I think this is my opportunity. :)

I think I have also found a new New Year's Resolution. :)

I wonder how many I can donate in a year. Hmm...

Happy Crafting!!  :)

Back to School

Well, today is the first day back to school for my kids. Finally, back to some normalcy. I love my kids, but I think they love being out and about more.

I really need a more up-to-date picture of my kids. LOL!
Alyssa is a huge social butterfly. We did have a couple of play dates with her friend Claire. Thank goodness, a few hours where they can entertain each other. Alyssa and Logan play well together for the most part, but on occasion Alyssa has her queen complex and bosses him around. He doesn't play so well with her when she is in that mood. That's when every two minutes, it's: "Mommy, Logan hit me," or "Mommy, Alyssa is not sharing," or "Mommy, Logan is eating my hair." Yep, you read right!!

Kat is in her own teenage world, sometimes I'm VERY thankful of that, so she usually just hides in her room.

Alyssa and Kat are very excited for school today, as am I.

Yeah, Mommy time! Well, kinda. Having only one child seems like a huge break for me right now. LOL! The little things that make mommies happy, who knew. :)

Happy Day!! :)
